Patriot Invitational Ends with Both Mason Swimming and Diving Teams in Third Place

Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams both captured third place out of nine teams, as the Patriot Invitational concluded on Sunday evening at the Jim McKay Natatorium. Mason's men's team finished with 522 points, while the women totaled 543 points.

UMBC finished first on both the men's and women's sides, with scores of 1,097 and 977, respectively. UNCW came in second on both sides, as well, with the men recording 593 points and the women totaling 808 points.

Mason's best performance of the day came on the women's side in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Ashley Danner, Paige Impink, Katie Planchak, and Jenny Kane posted a second place finish, recording a time of 3:27.62. Other notable performances included a fourth place finish by Jenny Kane in the 200-yard breaststroke, in which she posted a time of 2:23.42, and Ashley Danner, who finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.91.

On the men's side Preston Wolter had the best performance recording a fourth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51.50. He also came in fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.61. Wolter, along with Joey Kelly, David Kiss, and Zachary Hamlin, also posted a fourth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay recording a 3:08.20 time in the event.

Overall, Danner and Bryan Bahr were the top performers for each team. Danner captured individual first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.24, and in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:18.19. This time qualified her for an NCAA consideration. She also finished first in the 400-yard medley relay with Paige Impink, Lindsay Pierce, and Jenny Kane, recording a time of 3:47.79 and first in the 200-yard medley relay with Paige Impink, Anna Ratana, and Katie Planchak, recording a time of 1:43.13. She posted a fourth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.91, as well.

Bahr finished first in both diving events he took place in. He posted a score of 314.30 in the 1-meter dive and a 363.00 score in the 3-meter dive.

Mason will swim again on December 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at the US S.C. Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
