Hershey, PA. - The George Mason wrestling team took part in the Hershey Duals Saturday, losing in all four matchups in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Nine Division I schools, four Division II and III schools and three high school division schools took place in this tournament that helped benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. The other schools that competed included Division I schools, Drexel, Edinboro, Kent State, Lock Haven University, The Citadel, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech. The Division II and III schools were Johns Hopkins, Shippensburg, Waynesburg and York College of PA. Mason was paired up against Edinboro, Lock Haven, Virginia Tech, and The Citadel.
Cayle Byers started the day ranked #7 by Amateur Wrestling News and proved he belonged at that ranking, going 4-0 in his matchups. He won by a forfeit against Edinboro, recorded a fall against Travis Stem (Lock Haven), had a 9-4 decision over Chris Penny (VT), and had a 12-3 major decision against Kelby Smith (The Citadel). Brandon Bucher also had a strong showing with a 3-1 record in the 149 pound weight class on the day. He lost to #10 Torsten Gillespie in a 6-2 decision, won a 6-3 decision against Dalton Cunningham (Lock Haven), beat Cameron Hurd in a 8-3 decision, and recorded a 7-3 decision over Derek Royster (The Citadel).
Mason will play in the Navy Classic next Saturday, November 20th, in Annapolis, MD. It is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
