Fairfax, Va. The Mason swimming and diving men's and women's teams hosted their first home event on Saturday afternoon and it was a tough day for the Patriots as the men's team was swept at the dual meet while the women earned a split with Loyola and Navy.
Ashley Danner was the lone Mason swimmer to earn a first-place finish as she topped three events. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.46, was first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.72, and was ahead of the field in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.26. The women beat Loyola, 164-134, and lost to Navy, 215-83. Navy won a combined 22 events in the meet.
Other Mason swimmers to have high finishes were Rebecca Anderson, who finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:42.36), Kendra Gully, who finished fourth (10:56.60) in the same event, and Lindsay Pierce, who finished second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.21. The women placed second in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:47.31.
On the men's side, Cole Jamison finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a 53.03 time, Bryan Bahr finished second in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 373.20, and Preston Wolter finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:01.82. Mason finished second in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.45. The Patriots fell to Loyola 194-103 and to Navy, 201-87.
The teams return to the pool next Saturday, October 16, in Newark, Del. Mason will be competing against Delaware and James Madison at 1:00 pm.
