It's less than two months into the 2010-11 season and George Mason student-athletes have already taken part in a pair of community service events.

The first community service event was the Dulles Day Plane Pull, an event to raise money and awareness for Special Olympic athletes. The event, which was held at Dulles Airport, consists of a plane pull, car show, aircraft displays and a Kids' Zone. About 50 Mason student-athletes from the rowing, wrestling, track and field and dance teams showed up for the event.

The student-athletes participated in the Kids' Zone and helping with concessions. They helped supervise kids on slides, moon bounce and dunk tank.

The second community event was the Second Annual Happy Heart Walk held on the Fairfax campus. The walk, which is run through Mason Human Resources, saw members of the lacrosse team register participants and take part in the one-mile walk around campus.

Later this month, Mason student-athletes will join with other Mason community members to chaperone students around the Fairfax Community to monitor the safety of local "trick-or-treaters."
