Craig Mason Named to the CAA 25th Anniversary Golf Team

RICHMOND, Va. - The Colonial Athletic Association announced today its 25th Anniversary Team for golf, which includes one Patriot legend Craig Mason. He is a four-time All-CAA selection in his collegiate career (2000-04) and remains the Mason record-holder for the best career stroke average (73.14).

Mason, a 2004 graduate of George Mason University, captured two first team All-Conference selections (2002, 04), two second team All-Conference selections, two PING/Golf Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic All-Region selections, two first team Virginia Golf Coaches Association selections and a second team Virginia Golf Coaches Association selection.

Along with the best career stroke average the Lorton, Va. native also holds the top three lowest season stroke averages by any Patriot. He finished his career at Mason with four individual tournament victories including two Duquesne/Champion Lakes Invitationals (2000, 2001), Pirate Invitational (2001), and River Landing Intercollegiate (2001) which is the most in schools history. George Mason captured team titles at Buck Leslie Memorial Invitational and Duquesne/Champion Lakes Invitational during his freshman year of 2000.

Mason boasted the lowest individual tournament score for 36 holes ever by a Patriot and ranks second for lowest individual tournament score for 54 holes with Daniel Hurley and received NCAA District Honor accolades as player of the Month in 2001.

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 championship sports. The teams are selected by a panel of current and former coaches in the conference.

Men's golf has been a championship sport in the CAA since the league's inception in 1985. Membership varied with nine different schools competing in the league during the first decade. Currently, eleven teams compete for the CAA championship. VCU has captured eight CAA golf championships since joining the conference in 1996. George Mason highest finish was fourth in 1989 and 2001.
