Swimming and Diving Splits as Men Win at Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The George Mason men's swimming and diving team took home 11 first-place finishes en route to a 183-106 victory over Towson on Saturday afternoon, while the Patriot women fell to the Tigers, 214-86 at Burdick Pool.

Leading the way for Mason was senior Eric Knight who had three wins on the day. Knight took first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.01), 200-yard freestyle (1:44.34), and 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.82). The Mason men had two double-event winners: junior Ryan David and sophomore Bryan Bahr. David won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with times of 52.86 and 1:59.35, respectively, while Bahr swept the diving events. He recorded scores of 293.18 and 329.55 in the 1- and 3-meter dives, respectively.

Mason had four other winners. Mark Nelson won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.24, Nick Masterson was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.91, Preston Wolter won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:43.00, and Steven Benecki touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.57.

On the women's side, sophomore Kristen Meier swept the diving events with scores of 293.18 and 329.55 in the 1- and 3-meter dive, respectively, while sophomore Ashley Danner won the 100 breast in 1:02.52. Finally, Mason's women's 200-yard medley relay of Nicole Harmon, Danner, Caitlin Impink and Kelsey Holmgaard won with a time of 1:46.87.

The Patriots will be back in action next Saturday hosting a quad meet in which they will face off against Army, American and CAA foe Old Dominion. That meet is set to begin at noon at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
