The George Mason golf team opened their fall schedule at the Manor Intercollegiate being played at The Manor Resort Golf Club in Farmville, Va. The Patriots shot season-opening rounds of 304 and 309 for a 36-hole score of 613 to stand in fourth place among 13 teams. Gardner-Webb University is leading the event with its two-round 581 at the 7,214-yard, par 72 layout just south of town.
The Patriots were led by veterans Josh Apple and Marshall Tinsley, who both scored 147 totals on the day. Apple's first round was a one-under 71, but his second round 76 moved him into a tie for 8th place. Tinsley carded scores of 73 and 74.
Longwood is in second place and Loyola finished ahead of the Patriot in third with a two-round 599. Garner-Webb's Daniel Kim is the individual leader after carding a 69-72 for a 36-hole score of 141. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday morning.
