Chris Henderson, a junior baseball player and Ryann Hendricks, a senior member of the track and field team had outstanding months in April and for their efforts, Henderson was named George Mason Male Student-Athlete of the Month while Hendricks was named Female Student-Athletes of the Month.
Henderson hit a blistering .451 in April with seven homers, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and a .515 on-base percentage. A semifinalist for the Howser Trophy, given to the top college baseball player in the country, and the Bench Award, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher, the Marlton, N.J. native is on pace to match the school record for hits in a season and to challenge for the best single-season batting average in school history. Henderson was named first-team All-CAA this year at catcher and was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and CAA Co-Player of the Year.
Hendricks, a native of Chicago, Ill., had a solid month of April for the Patriots' track and field team. She was named the Women's Field Co-Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the CAA Championships, as she captured the triple jump title with a distance of 12.66 meters, surpassing the NCAA qualifying mark. She also finished second in the long jump with an NCAA regional qualifying distance of 6.09 meters. It is the second-straight year that she has been recognized with the award. Earlier in the month, she placed second at the Onesty/Abramson Invitational in the long jump with a mark of 5.70 meters, and first qualified for the ECAC Championships in the long and triple jumps at the Florida Relays. This is the second time Hendricks has won the award in 2008-09 and she becomes the first person to win the award three times as she also won it in January of 2008.
