The George Mason men's golf team is in 13th place after the opening round of play at the Cavalier Classic taking place at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, VA. The Patriots are just one stroke behind Liberty and three behind Akron in the field of 18 teams.
Mason's Marshall Tinsley is tied for fourth place overall with five players going into the final round Sunday. Tinsley shot a two-under 70 on the par 72, 6,875 yard course.
UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock leads the field at 5-under 67. He had six birdies during his round and did not record a bogey until the 18th hole.
South Carolina was led by George Bryan IV's 2-under 70. Three of his teammates shot even par 72 to help the Gamecocks to the first-round lead.
The final round of the Cavalier Classic starts at 8 a.m. at Birdwood Golf Course.
