FAIRFAX, Va. -
George Mason will conclude its 2009 women's lacrosse season with a 7 p.m. Colonial Athletic Association game against James Madison on Thursday at George Mason Stadium. The game will be the Apple Federal Credit Union/Broadside Game of the Week.
Both teams enter Thursday's contest with identical records of 5-10 overall and 1-5 against CAA opponents. Both will be looking to reverse their recent fortunes, as the Patriots have lost six consecutive contests, while the Dukes are on a four-game skid. Since beginning the season with a perfect 3-0 record, James Madison has won only two of its past 12 games.
Thursday's game will be the final act for a trio of George Mason seniors - attacker Brittany Berger, defender Maggie Bridges and midfielder Alana Chan. Brittany Berger ranks first on the team in goals (27) and free-position goals (8), and second in points (35) and draw controls (34). Bridges, the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Year, ranks second in the nation in ground balls per game with an average of 4.07 per contest. She also leads the Patriots in caused turnovers with 23. Chan, a transfer from Canisius College, has put up excellent all-around numbers for the second straight year, with 14 goals, 10 assists, 36 draw controls, 21 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls. She leads the team in draw controls this season.
James Madison has three players that have scored 30 or more goals - Jaime Dardine (32), Mary Kat Lomady (32) and Kim Griffin (30). Dardine is the team's leading point-scorer with 48.
Tickets to the game cost $5 for adults and $2 for youth and senior citizens. All full-time enrolled students at George Mason University will be admitted free with a valid Mason student ID. All students in attendance will have an opportunity to spin the Mason prize wheel for the chance to win Mason prizes. In addition, lucky number giveaways will take place throughout the game.
