The George Mason tennis teams will host Coppin State on Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m. at the Mason Tennis Courts. The five seniors will be honored prior to the match at 3:45 p.m.
The Mason men's team will honor four seniors from their eight-man roster, Brian Fitzgerald, Jordan Lipstock, Dan Schneider and Matthew Vaughn. The Patriots top singles player Fitzgerald played two seasons for the Patriots after transferring from VCU. He finishes his two-year career with a winning record from the No. 1 singles position, 20-14 in dual matches, 29-22 overall. As a senior, his overall record is 12-12 and he earned third team all-CAA in both singles and doubles.
Senior Dan Schneider anchored the No. 3 singles position for the Patriots this season and finished only 2-11 on the season from that spot, but was paired with Fitzgerald as the top doubles team that went 10-9 overall, 7-8 during the spring dual season. In his four-year career at Mason, he posted a 42-39 overall record in doubles action. He was voted on the all-CAA third team doubles, paired with Fitzgerald.
Senior Jordan Lipstock played the majority of his matches from the No. 4 position with a 5-9 record, 8-13 overall. During his four-year career, Lipstock played the singles positions Nos. 3-5 and finished with a 26-58 record. Prior to this season, he played the majority of his doubles matches from the No. 1 spot.
Matthew Vaughn played his highest number of singles matches this year with 15 and finished with a 3-12 record. He played 22 doubles matches as a junior paired with three different partners, finishing 7-15. He is 10-13 from doubles this season paired with either Lipstock or Imran Nayeem.
The women netters have one graduating senior they will honor at the match, Alicia Van Zandt. The Newton Square, Pa product played all four seasons in a Patriot uniform and at all positions. She played her most matches as a freshman, 22 singles and 18 doubles matches. As a senior, Van Zandt owns a 7-8 singles and 9-11 doubles record. She was paired with three other players in doubles action this season with a 5-7 mark when paired with Brooke Blackwell and 3-3 record with Meredith Cutchin.
