April 17, 2009

The women's rowing team will compete at the first Colonial Athletic Association women's rowing championship on April 18, 2009 in Philadelphia. The event will be conducted in conjunction with the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River along historic Boathouse Row. The CAA has begun sponsorship of women's rowing as the conference's 23rd sport.

Five full CAA members currently sponsor women's rowing at the intercollegiate level - the University of Delaware, Drexel University, George Mason University, Northeastern University and Old Dominion University. Joining that group as an associate member in women's rowing will be the University of Buffalo.

The Patriot rowers have enjoyed success at the Kerr Cup the past few years. Last year for the first time in program history, Mason Varsity 8 won the Kerr Cup and the unofficial CAA Title. In 2007 Mason women won their first CAA Championship in rowing against boats from Delaware, Drexel, William and Mary, VCU, ODU and UNCW.

The Championship will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature races in the Women's Varsity 8, Women's Varsity 4 and the Women's Second Varsity 8.
