The George Mason men's tennis team lost to #7 seed Georgia State 4-1 in the opening round of the CAA Men's Tennis Championship Thursday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. Matches were played indoors due to high winds, so singles matches were contested first.
The Patriots picked up a point at number two singles when Freshman Jorge Osuna defeated Jackson Moore, 7-6, 6-4. Georgia State had three wins in straight sets as Henri Mangin beat Daniel Schneider, 6-2, 6-1 at number three, Lucas Thomaz defeated Jordan Lipstock, 6-1, 7-5 at number four and Trenton Spinks blanked Matt Vaughn, 6-0, 6-0 at number five. Georgia State used a three-set victory at number one singles to clinch its victory over Mason as the Panthers' Martin Shishkov outlasted Mason's Brian Fitzgerald 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Mason's last match of the season is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 against Coppin State at the George Mason Tennis Courts.
