Box Score

ATLANTA - Junior Becky Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the George Mason offense, but Georgia State jumped on the lead early and held on as the Panthers defeated the Patriots, 3-0, in Colonial Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon at Bob Heck Field.

Mason fell to 14-26 and 0-12 in CAA play as the Panthers (22-14, 9-2) completed the three-game sweep.

Anderson paced a Mason offense which was limited to just four hits on the game by GSU starter Alana Thomas, who improved to 9-4 in a game where no Patriot batter struck out. Freshman Miranda Cranford (6-6) took the loss for Mason after pitching a complete game.

Georgia State took control of the lead in the bottom of the first inning, as the first two Panther batters recorded hits and Catherine Lee drove them both in with a two-RBI double to center field. Lee tacked on another RBI to her tally when her fielder's choice allowed Erica Whitaker to score from third base in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After Anderson had doubled in the second inning, Mason again had a runner in scoring position in the fifth inning, as her one-out single up the middle was matched by Cranford one batter later. The next Mason batter, sophomore Stephanie Strother, grounded out to first base and the Panthers turned two to end the inning.

Freshman Tori Dudley earned the final Mason hit of the game in the top of the seventh inning as she hit a two-out single to left field, but a groundout ended the game and gave GSU the win.

Mason will look for a return to the win column on Wednesday evening when it faces Georgetown at 6 p.m.
