RICHMOND, Va. -
George Mason won both of its women's lacrosse games this past week to even its record at 2-2 on the season and the Patriots were honored with a pair of weekly awards from the conference office on Monday. Junior Megan Udovich was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week, while teammate Julianne Tela was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Udovich came off the bench to provide a spark for Mason's offense in a 17-11 victory over Saint Joseph's on Saturday. The Ridley Park, Pa. native scored three of her five second-half goals in a pivotal 5-0 run that gave Mason a 13-8 advantage it would not relinquish. Udovich scored a career-high six goals in the game. Udovich split the Player of the Week award with Towson's Meggie McNamara.
Tela scored five goals to power the Patriots' attack to a 16-11 victory over GW on Wednesday afternoon for Mason's first win of the 2009 season. In Mason's second win of the week against Saint Joseph's, Tela added two goals, three ground balls and a caused turnover.
After beginning the season with four consecutive road contests, George Mason plays its home opener on Saturday, March 14 against Boston University. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
