The George Mason softball team takes on an in-state rival when it hosts Virginia at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in a doubleheader rescheduled from earlier in the month. Admission to both games against the Cavaliers at George Mason Field is free.
Mason faces off against UVA with a 13-17 record and will attempt to halt a six-game winless streak after two tough weekends in Colonial Athletic Association play. Most recently, the Patriots were swept at Towson with game scores of 6-0, 6-4, and 2-1.
Freshman Morgan Davis has powered the Patriot offense this season, as she is batting .324 with 18 RBIs, six doubles and four home runs. Joining her with four homers is freshman Miranda Cranford, who along with junior Becky Anderson represent the pitching corps. Anderson leads the team with a 7-11 record and 2.53 ERA, while Cranford trails close behind with a 2.57 ERA and 5-3 record.
The Cavaliers come to Fairfax with a 19-9 overall record, but are coming off a pair of losses to rival Virginia Tech. Sarah Tacke has been Virginia's top hitter this season, batting .440 with eight home runs, four doubles, four triples and 33 runs batted in. Karla Wilburn has been UVA's top threat in the circle, as she has earned a 2.03 ERA and 14-4 record in 20 appearances.
Tuesday's games were originally scheduled for March 2, but heavy snow forced their postponement. Additionally, the twinbill has been pushed up to 2 p.m., one hour earlier than the original start time.
Following Tuesday's action, Mason will make the short trip to Arlington to face George Washington Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
