FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's lacrosse team held a one-goal lead late in the first half against the fourth-ranked team in the country but were unable to come up with enough goals in the second half to pull off the upset, falling 16-10 to Georgetown on Wednesday evening at George Mason Stadium. The Hoyas outscored the Patriots 8-3 in the second half to pull away.

After falling behind 5-2 when Georgetown's Mary Beth Brophy found the back of the net with 19:39 remaining in the first half, George Mason mounted a comeback, scoring five consecutive goals to take a 7-5 lead. Junior attacker Megan Udovich provided a spark off the bench once again, scoring the final three goals of the run.

Leading by two goals with 5:32 remaining in the opening half, the George Mason defense was unable to hold onto the lead. The Hoyas scored twice in a span of 12 seconds to tie the score at seven. Georgetown regained the lead when junior midfielder Ashby Kaestner scored her 11th goal of the season off of a free-position shot with 1:48 left in the half.

After the intermission, Georgetown scored the first goal of the second half off the stick of sophomore attacker Jacqueline Giles to take a 9-7 lead. Senior midfielder Alana Chan answered five minutes later for Mason, scoring a free-position goal to cut the deficit to one. It proved to be as close as the Patriots would get in the contest as the Hoyas went on a 7-2 run over the final 21:08 to increase their lead.

Udovich led Mason with three goals on five shots. Sophomore attacker Madalyn Jamison added two goals and an assist for three points. Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Gamble had a goal, four caused turnovers and five ground balls in the contest.

Ford chipped in an assist for five points.

Georgetown improves to 5-2 with the win. Mason falls to 2-4 this season with the loss. After a two-game winning streak, the Patriots have lost their last two.
