Track and Field to Host the Mason Last Chance Meet on Sunday

  • Mason Last Chance Meet Schedule

    FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams will host the Mason Last Chance meet this Sunday at the Field House. The meet, slated to begin at 11 a.m., is the last opportunity for competitors to qualify for the ECAC/IC4A and NCAA Indoor Championships.

    Three women's events and one men's event will get things started on Sunday. The women's long jump, pole vault and 60-meter hurdles, along with the men's weight throw, will all begin at 11 a.m. The men's 4x400-meter relay will conclude the meet at approximately 2:50 p.m.

    A total of 11 individuals for Mason's men's track and field team have already qualified for the IC4A Championships in 10 events. Sophomore Dwight Webley has also provisionally qualified for NCAA Championship competition in the long jump. Mason's men's team has also qualified for the IC4A Championships in three relay events, the 4x400-meter, 4x800-meter and the distance medley relay.

    On the women's side, Mason has already qualified five individuals in five events for the ECAC Indoor Championships. Senior Ryann Hendricks has also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the triple jump. The women's team has also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 4x400-meter relay.

    Including the Patriots, 28 teams will compete on Sunday, 14 for both the men and women. For the men, Bowie State, Christopher Newport University, Clayton State, George Washington, Georgetown, Hampton, Howard, Mary Washington, Morehouse, Saint Augustine's, Salisbury, Virginia Union and William and Mary will compete. Virginia Commonwealth University and Navy will compete only on the women's side, along with each team previously listed for the men except for Morehouse and Hampton.

    The 276 registered competitors will be in pursuit of qualifying times or distances for their respective championships for the following weekend. The IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships will take place in Boston, Mass on March 7-8.
