Mason Golf Tied for 12th After Day One of Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

Playing in their first tournament of the spring season, Mason's golf team is tied for 12th place after the first two rounds of the fourth annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate held on Hilton Head Island, S.C. USC Aiken leads the team standings in the 16-team tournament going into the third round today.

George Mason's freshman Josh Apple leads the Patriots after day one with a 152 36-hole score. Apple shot one of only five sub-par rounds on the day by the 81 golfers as he carded a one-under par 71 in the second 18 holes after shooting an 81 in round one. Branson Real is two strokes behind Apple after carding a 78-76=154 on the day.

The top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, USCA fired an opening-round 292 team score and followed that with a 299 tally in the afternoon. The Pacers' 591 score leads host Francis Marion University by two strokes after 36 holes. The University of Richmond is third at 604, followed by USC Upstate at 608 and defending tournament champion Elon University in fifth at 616.

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course.
