BALTIMORE - The George Mason women's lacrosse team opened its 2009 season with a 15-10 loss to No. 15 Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. Sophomore Madalyn Jamison scored three goals to lead the Patriots' attack.

After Johns Hopkins scored the first two goals of the game, Mason answered with a pair of its own to tie the score. Senior attacker Brittany Berger scored the Patriots first goal of the contest and sophomore attacker Callie Hoyt netted the equalizer with 17:34 remaining in the first half. After Hoyt's score, the Blue Jays went on a 5-2 run to close the half with a 7-4 lead.

Following the intermission, Johns Hopkins scored three of the first four goals to take a 10-5 advantage. Trailing by five goals, Mason scored three goals in less than a minute to cut the deficit to two. Senior Maggie Bridges, sophomore Chelsea Gamble and freshman Emily Ellisen all scored for the Patriots during the 3-0 spurt.

With Mason trailing by two, Johns Hopkins scored five straight goals to take a commanding 15-8 lead with 6:32 remaining. Jamison scored two goals to end the contest but it wasn't enough as the Patriots took a 15-10 loss.

Jamison's three goals led the Patriots' offense. Ellisen tacked on a pair in her George Mason debut, adding four draw controls to her stat line. Junior goalkeeper Sara Longobucco made eight saves in 60 minutes in goal.

Brooke Foussadier scored four goals to lead the Blue Jays' attack. Goalkeeper Lizzie O'Ferrall made four saves in goal for Johns Hopkins.

The Patriots (0-1) remain on the road for their next contest, traveling to Blacksburg, Va. to take on Virginia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
