The University of Mary Washington tennis team defeated George Mason, 6-1, today at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. Mason dropped to 4-5 on the spring season while the Eagles improved to 3-1.
Mason's lone point came from the No. 2 singles match as Brooke Blackwell defeated Kate Malpeli, 6-4, 6-3. Two other singles matches could of easily gone the Patriots way. At No. 1 singles, the Green and Gold's Lindsay Gray won the first set, 6-1, but lost the next two 6-0, 6-3 to Becky Morse-Karzen. In the No. 4 singles Sarah Dieffenbach lost the tiebreaker in the first set 7-6(7-5) and went down 7-5 in the second set against Mary Washington's Amy Sheetz.
Mary Washington won all three doubles matches. The closest match was at No. 3 where the Eagles team of Stacey Rickard and Michelle Meadows defeated Mason's duo of Laura-Marie Blisk and Stephanie Longuera by a 8-6 margin.
