BLACKSBURG, Va. -
Senior Ryann Hendricks set a personal best in the triple jump for the second consecutive week with a leap of 12.74 meters (41 ft. 9.75 in.) at the VT Challenge at Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Hendricks hit the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump at the ISU Classic last weekend.
With the jump, Hendricks topped her previous high mark of 12.68 meters (41 ft. 7.25 in.) set last weekend. The Chicago, Ill. native finished in third place at the VT Challenge, behind a pair of unattached athletes, Tiombe Hurd (13.03m/42 ft. 9 in.) and Lena Betts (12.98m/42 ft. 7 in.).
In the long jump, sophomore Chia Hudson topped the ECAC qualifying standard with a jump of 5.69 meters (18 ft. 8 in.). Hudson finished in sixth place in the event. Her previous season high in the long jump was 5.62 meters.
On the men's side, freshman Ja-Vell Bullard topped the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.71 seconds. Teammate Kevin Wilson was also a top-10 finisher, clocking in at 48.92 seconds. Both Bullard and Wilson have already qualified for the IC4A Championships in the event. Marcus Wyche narrowly missed an IC4A-qualifying time, crossing the finish line in 49.26 seconds.
Both Dwight Webley and LaVell Handy finished in the top-10 in the long jump. Webley finished in sixth place with a jump of 7.37 meters (24 ft. 2.25 in.) while Handy finished three spots behind Webley with a leap of 6.96 meters (22 ft. 10 in.). Webley has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
In the triple jump, Webley earned another top-10 finish with a leap of 14.66 meters (48 ft. 1.25 in.). Webley has already qualified for the IC4A Championships in the event.
In the pole vault, freshman Lee Oxenford finished in fourth place with a mark of 4.60 meters (15 ft. 1 in.). The top three finishers, Lees-McRae's Jonathan Arthur and Ryan Oakes, and Wake Forest's Trey Blanton, all finished with a mark of 4.75 meters (15 ft. 7 in.).
Both the men's and women's teams fared well in the relay races. The women's team finished in fourth place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.48. The men's team finished sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:16.40. Both teams have already qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in the event.
The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams host the Mason Last Chance Meet on Sunday, March 1 at the Field House. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
