FAIRFAX, Va. - With just one day of competition remaining, the George Mason swimming and diving team held its ground by maintaining its hold on third place in the 2009 Patriot Invitational. The Patriots captured six total victories on Saturday at the Jim McKay Natatorium, including a pair of meet records in women's relays.

The women have 485 points, while the men have 524 points. UMBC leads both the women's and men's scoreboards with scores of 688 and 644.5, respectively.

Two of the Patriot wins came in relays, both of which set new meet records. The women's 200-yard medley relay of sophomores Nicole Harmon and Ashley Danner, senior Caitlin Impink and freshman Kelsey Holmgaard won the event in 1:44.52.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Mason's team consisting of Impink, junior Jennifer Kane, senior Claire Weems and Danner finished with a time of 7:32.53, a Patriot Invitational record.

On the women's side, Danner tallied the other victory as she touched the wall in first place with a time of 4:20.64 in the 400-yard individual medley.

For the men, the 800 free relay of sophomore Preston Wolter, freshman David Kiss, seniors Eric Knight and Steven Benecki won their event with a time of 6:48.98. Kiss was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.04, while sophomore Derrick Butts won the 3-meter diving title with a score of 354.35.

The Patriot Invitational concludes Sunday, with the preliminary session set for 9 a.m. and the finals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
