Patriot Invitational Central

FAIRFAX, Va. - After one day of competition at the 2009 Patriot Invitational, the George Mason swimming and diving team ranks third on both the men's and women's sides. With one day of action at the Jim McKay Natatorium in the books, the Patriot women have 266 points while the men have 193.

The UNC Wilmington women lead with 300 points while the UMBC men's team is currently in first place with 244 points.

Mason had three victories on the day. Sophomore Preston Wolter was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:30.85. Also on the men's side, the Patriots' 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Larry Dow, senior Eric Knight, freshman David Kiss and Wolter won the event with a time of 3:23.58.

On the women's side, sophomore Kristen Meier had the top score in the 1-meter diving competition, as she totaled 302.65 points in capturing first place. Mason also had eight other top-three finishes during the day.

The Patriot Invitational continues through the weekend, with Saturday's sessions scheduled for 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
