The George Mason women's rowing team completed 2009 with medalist performances in the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta. The Patriots raced four boats and all finished in the top three in the first time event on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ on Saturday.
The Patriots took top honors in both their Varsity 8 boats. Mason's top boat finished with a time of 7:28.79 ahead of two West Virginia boats. The Patriots B boat finished in a time of 7:30.67, a full five seconds ahead of runner-up Temple B.
The Varsity 4 boat for the Patriots came in third place behind West Virginia and SUNY Maritime.
"This was a fun race to end our Fall season." Head Coach Geoff Dillard said. "We wanted to focus on how we row in practice and then show that on race day. The girls had a lot of fun and did a great job on execution."
The Novice 8 finished as silver medalist in their race with a time of 8:13.87. St. Joseph's University won the sprint race with a time of 7:49.87.
"This race gave our novices a chance to see what the spring is going to be like. They did a great job and are now excited for the spring," Dillard added.
