LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore diver Kristen Meier set a pair of school records off the board, but the George Mason swimming and diving team ultimately fell to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The women's team was defeated 185-115, while the Patriot men fell to the Bison, 166-132.
Meier recorded a new team high in the 1-meter dive with a score of 315.22 which bested her previous school record by over 15 points. In the 3-meter competition, Meier toppled Jamie Downing's record of 298.50 by scoring 312.45 points to win the event on Saturday.
Her two victories were a part of the 16 total wins by the Patriots, seven for the women and nine for the men.
Leading the Patriot women was sophomore Ashley Danner, who collected three first-place finishes for the third consecutive week. Danner won the 100 breast (1:04.96), 200 breast (2:20.44), and 200 IM (2:07.73). Senior Caitlin Impink won the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.05, while junior Jennifer Kane was victorious in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.07.
On the men's side, sophomore Preston Wolter led the way with a trio of victories, his second straight week doing so. Wolter won the 500 free (4:43.11), 1000 free (9:52.79), and 200 fly (1:55.71). Senior Eric Knight picked up two wins in the 100 breast (58.85) and 200 breast (2:08.65), while freshman David Kiss won the 100 fly in 51.94. Sophomore Derrick Butts swept the diving events with scores of 293.40 in the 1-meter and 319.95 in the 3-meter.
Finally, the men's 200 medley relay of senior Ryan David, Knight, Kiss and senior Tad Ogren touched the wall first with a time of 1:35.35.
Mason will be back in action when it travels to Newark, Del., in two weekends to take part in the CAA Pod Meet.
