Three Patriots Claim CAA Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. - After outstanding individual performances in the George Mason swimming and diving team's conference opener against Delaware, sophomores Preston Wolter, Ashley Danner and Kristen Meier received accolades from the Colonial Athletic Association. Wolter and Danner were named the Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week, respectively, while Meier earned her second straight Women's Diver of the Week Award.

Wolter was victorious in three individual events in Mason's 157.5-142.5 win over Delaware. In the 500 free, the Clarksville, Md., native took first with a time of 4:44.02 and won the 1000 yard free in 9:47.58. He was also the winner of the 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:53.08.

Danner won three individual events and a relay against Delaware last weekend. The Springfield, Va., native won the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:03.39 and 2:19.41, and also captured the 200 individual medley in 2:07.48. She was part of the winning 200 medley relay team as well.

For the second straight week, Meier swept both board events against the Blue Hens, winning the 1 and 3-meter dives for the second straight week. In the 1-meter, the Walden, N.Y., product scored 274.34 and in the 3-meter, she was at the top with a score of 290.17.

It is the first career weekly honor for Wolter and the second for Wolter. For Danner, it is her fifth time being recognized by the conference in a weekly award.

The Patriots are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Bucknell for a 1 p.m. meet.
