Oct. 15, 2009

The women's rowing team began their four-event fall schedule on Sunday, October 11 at the Occoquan Chase, the Patriots home course. Mason, who has six returnees to the first boat, raced two Open Women's and four boats in the Open Women's 4 on the 4700 meter course.

In the Open Women's 8 the Patriots finished 2nd and 4th out of 10 boats. University of North Carolina won the event by nine seconds. Mason finished 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th out of 12 boats in the Open Women's 4.

"I was pleased with how the eights rowed this past weekend. They were able to make some adjustments we wanted to make in their racing and had a solid race. We still got some areas we need to clean up, and when we do I think we can gain a lot of speed," Head Coach Geoff Dillard commented.

"In the fours race, I think we need to work on our conditioning. We will focus on logging more meters the rest of the fall and get to where we want to be," added Dillard.

"Overall I am happy with where we are at this point in the year. We still got a lot of work to do and will look to improve each week," Dillard said.

The Green and Gold will travel to Boston for the Head of the Charles on October 18th.
