Richmond, Va. - The George Mason women's tennis team opened the VCU 4-1 Tournament by losing their first match of the day to CAA conference foe UNC Wilmington 0-5. The Patriots No. 1, Lindsay Gray, suffered a hard fought loss falling 12-10 in the third set tie-breaker to Kayla Swenk. Brooke Blackwell and Meredith Cutchin also played close with their opponents but came up just short.
In Mason's second match of the day the 35th ranked Rams of VCU proved to be too much for the Lady Netters as they lost 5-0. "I was pleased overall with our performance. We are working on less than a week of practice and are showing great improvement. We are not where we want to be but we are making progress," remarked Coach Curtis.
The Lady Patriots will play Campbell tomorrow at 2 p.m. to wrap-up the tournament hosted by VCU.
