The George Mason men's golf team didn't move from their 13th place standing after day one at the Cardinal Intercollegiate after shooting a 13-over par 301 in the final round today. The tournament was played at the par 72, 7,001-yard Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
Host Louisville, who entered the day tied with Denver for tournament lead, fired 273 (second-lowest total in school history) to win the trophy by nine strokes over Eastern Kentucky and Kansas State. Denver finished in fourth-place at 846 and Indiana was fifth with 848.
The Patriots were led by Marshall Tinsley, who shot a two-over 74 in each of the three rounds to finish tied for 44 overall. Freshman Josh Apple shot a three-over par today to finish one stroke off Tinsley and tied for 48th. Branson Real led Mason on the day, shooting a 72, his best round of the tournament.
The Patriots return to action on October 13th at the Duke Coca Cola Classic.
