Golf Team Tied for 13th after First Day at Cardinal Intercollegiate

Through the first 36 holes of the Cardinal Intercollegiate, the George Mason men's golf team is tied for 13th place with Marshall with a score of 600. The three-round tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,001-yard Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.

Host Louisville and Denver are currently tied for the lead, three shots ahead of Eastern Kentucky, who sits in third place with a score of 564. Indiana is fourth at 568 and Kansas is in fifth at 571.

The Patriots had a rough start to the day with a +23 (311) in the first round. In the second round Mason shot a one-over par 289 to finish +24 on the day. Freshman Josh Apple and Sophomore Marshall Tinsley were the Patriots top two players on the day, finishing in a tie for 37th overall. Apple shaved eight strokes off his first round score with a two-under par 70 in round two. Tinsley was consistent shooting a two-over par 74 in both rounds.

The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Cardinal Club.
