FAIRFAX, Va. -
George Mason women's lacrosse head coach Lauren Rywak announced today the addition of Fairfax Station, Va. native Megan Cassara to her staff as an assistant coach. Cassara's primary duties will be working with the goalkeepers and the defensive unit.
"Megan is a great addition to the women's lacrosse program here at George Mason," Rywak said. "Her local ties to the community will be an asset to our program."
Cassara played four years as a defender for the University of Maryland women's lacrosse team, starting 18 games in her final season in 2008. During her senior season, Cassara set career highs in caused turnovers, draw controls and ground balls, helping the Terrapins advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships.
While attending Maryland, where she earned a bachelor's degree in family science, Cassara served as a volunteer coach for the Herndon High School girl's lacrosse team for four years. She also served as a Camp Counselor for Elevate Lacrosse in 2008.
Cassara is a 2004 graduate of W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Va. She was a 2004 US Lacrosse High School All-American, as well as a Washington Post Honorable Mention All-Met performer in 2004 in field hockey.
