EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND -
The George Mason women's lacrosse team has embarked on a nine-day trip to England, Ireland and Scotland, touring the countries together and competing against some of the world's best teams. Cindy Heiser recaps the Patriots first day of competition against the Scotland National Team.
After breakfast, we drove about one hour from Sterling to Edinburgh. During the afternoon, we took a bus tour of the capital. Our guide took us to the highest peak where we could see the entire city. Other sights included the Parliament, Robert Louis Stevenson's childhood home and the cafe where J.K. Rolling began writing the Harry Potter series. We got to walk around Edinburgh Castle for an hour before we left for our first lacrosse game against the Scotland National Team.
The Scottish team came out strong, scoring the first goal of the game. We ended the first half tied at four, but started the second half with momentum, which led us to an 11-7 victory! Before we left the capital city, we had a barbecue with Team Scotland. The women were friendly and enthusiastic to meet us. We hope the other teams we encounter are just as welcoming.
Tomorrow morning we are heading to northern England via coach bus.
