DES MOINES - Two George Mason student-athletes will compete for the NCAA title among the nation's best this week as junior Murielle Ahoure and senior Ryan McCoy will compete at the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, taking place at Drake Stadium in Des Moines from Wednesday to Saturday. Ahoure will take part in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, while McCoy will contest the triple jump.

Ahoure, an eight-time national qualifier, will compete in the 100 and 200 following her fourth-place finishes in both events two weekends ago at the East Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. In the 100, she ran a time of 11.71 in the finals following a preliminary time of 11.45, while she completed the 200 in 23.59. She is ranked 21st in the nation in the 100 and 22nd in the 200.

Last year in Sacramento, Ahoure advanced to the semi-finals of the 100-meter dash but withdrew due to a leg injury. In the preliminaries, Ahoure crossed the finish line in 11.34, third in her heat, but the injury slowed her time in the semi-finals to 11.93. The Bristow, Va., native had qualified for the 200 as well in last year's national championships, but the injury forced her out of that event as well.

The 100-meter dash preliminaries are set for 5:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. EDT) on Wednesday, with the semi-finals to follow 90 minutes later. The event finals are scheduled for 8:35 p.m. (9:35 p.m. EDT) Friday evening. In the 200, the qualifiers are scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (7:35 p.m. EDT) Thursday, with the finals set for 3:37 p.m. (4:37 p.m. EDT) on Saturday afternoon.

McCoy earned his spot in Des Moines with an at-large selection following sixth-place finish at the regional championships in the triple jump. The Roanoke, Va., native recorded a 15.92-meter distance in the event. While he did not receive one of the automatic qualifications for the top-five, his mark was the highest of any regional competitor who did not receive an automatic bid. Of the 26 entrants listed as qualifiers for the event, McCoy ranks 22nd in distance.

The men's triple jump competition is slated to begin at 4:15 p.m. (5:15 p.m. EDT) on Friday, with the finals set for 1 p.m. (2 p.m. EDT) Saturday.
