2008 IWLCA Division I All-Regional Teams in PDF Format

WEST HYANNISPORT, Mass. - Senior attacker Laura King was named to the IWLCA All-South Region Team for the second consecutive season, capping her career with a First Team selection after being named to the Second Team last season. Joining King on the All-South Team were junior attacker Brittany Berger and junior defender Maggie Bridges, with both student-athletes earning Second Team All-South honors.

The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I women's lacrosse with inclusion on one of eight All-Regional teams, with each of the four regions, the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and West/Midwest naming a first and a second team. All 128 student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America teams, which will be announced on May 29. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 14, 2008 in Downingtown, Pa.

Brittany Berger was named IWLCA Second-Team All-South on Thursday.

A superb all-around performer, King wrapped up her career this past season ranking second in school history in career goals and points, fifth in draw controls, and ninth in assists and caused turnovers. King made the All-CAA Team for the third straight season, earning First Team honors for the second consecutive year, and was also selected to the CAA Championship All-Tournament Team for the second time in her career. The Springfield, Pa. native led the team in goals (42), assists (15), points (57), game-winning goals (4), draw controls (35), and ranked second on the team in caused turnovers (25) and shooting percentage (.467) during the 2008 season.

Earning IWLCA All-South honors for the first time in her career was Second Team selection Berger, who set career highs in goals, points, shooting percentage and draw controls this season. She ranked second on the team with 39 goals and 50 points while shooting 42.4 percent from the field, and tied for second in draw controls with 24. An integral member of the attack, Berger's goals came in critical spots, as she recorded three game-winning goals during the season.

CAA Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Bridges was also named IWLCA Second-Team All-South on Thursday.

Joining Berger on the Second Team was Bridges, who was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year for her role in leading a Mason defense that ranked fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game and sixth in ground balls per game. The Fairfax, Va. native was the first Mason athlete to earn CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors since Kinsley O'Garrow won the award in 2000. The two-time All-CAA First Team performer anchored a defense which allowed only 9.65 goals per game, second-best in the conference and 23rd in the nation. Bridges picked up 41 ground balls for the Patriots, the second-highest total on the team. She also had a career-high 22 caused turnovers and 17 draw controls.

It was a banner season for the Patriots in 2008, as the team set a school record with 12 wins and tied the school record for conference wins with five. George Mason reached the highest ranking in school history earlier this year when they reached No. 9 in both polls. George Mason returned to the CAA Championship Tournament in 2008 following a two-year absence. Before missing the tournament for the first time following the 2006 season, the Patriots qualified for the tournament in 12 consecutive years.
