April 3, 2008

The Mason women's tennis team battled the Tigers and the wind as they notched their fourth consecutive win with a 6-1 decision at Towson. Mason improves to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Patriots took two of the three doubles matches to win the first point. Top singles player Lindsay Gray recorded Mason's second point with a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Izaguirre, but then the Tigers closed the gap to 2-1 winning at number three singles. Senior Julia Moscato secured the third win at number four singles with a decisive 6-1, 6-4 win.

With a 3-1 lead the remaining matches all went to decisive third sets. But the Mason trio of Stacey Berlinger, Aryn Christman and Meredith Cutchin showed their determination, fitness and conditioning by all winning in three hour matches. All three Patriots lost the first set of their matches, but won the next two sets to take the match.

Mason will be home this weekend to take on Robert Morris on Friday and CAA opponent Drexel on Saturday.
