Baseball Team Falls to Delaware Behind Six Blue Hen Homers

The George Mason baseball team surrendered six home runs and the Patriots were unable to make several two-out pitches as Mason fell to the Delaware Blue Hens, 11-6 in the opener of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series. Jared Olson had three of Delaware's homers.

Scott Krieger was 4 for 4, Spencer Wiggins was 3 for 5, Ryan Uphouse was 2 for 4 with a homer and Mark Hill was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI for Mason.

Delaware scored in the second on a two-out Olson solo homer. Mason took the lead in the third when Ryan Soares reached on an error, Chris Henderson and Krieger walked and Hill drove in a pair to put the Patriots ahead 2-1. Delaware retook the led in the bottom of the frame when Kyle Davis led off with a double and Josh Dean followed with a homer. Uphouse's homer in the top of the fourth tied the game at 3-3.

Delaware plated three in the fourth when Olson hit a three-run homer with two outs after Scott Shockley singled and Ryan Cuneo walked with one out. Mason pulled to within a run in the sixth when Uphouse led off with a double and scored on a Wiggins single. Wiggins went to second on an error and scored on a Justin Bour single.

Delaware broke the game open in the sixth when, with two outs, Shockley was hit by a pitch, Cuneo doubled to make it 7-5 and Ryan Reed homered for a 9-5 lead. Olson homered for the third time, the last pitch Mason starter Dan Jaycox threw in the game. Delaware's final run came in the seventh when Davis hit a one-out homer.

Mason's final run came in the eighth when Bour reached on a fielder's choice, went to third on a Krieger double and scored on a Shane Davis ground out.

The Patriots and Blue Hens will continue their three-game series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
