Fairfax, Va. The George Mason women's tennis team hosted Longwood University Sunday afternoon at the Robinson Field Tennis Courts. Longwood left Fairfax with a 6-1 victory, ending their season with a 10-7 overall record. The Lady Netters hold a 10-11 record heading into the CAA Championships.
Longwood opened up by taking two of the three doubles matches, earning the doubles point. Mason's victory came from Meredith Cutchin and Alex LaCoste in the No. 3 position. They defeated Edwards and Melsor in a hard battled match for a close 8-7 win.
In singles competition Longwood took five of the six matches. Julia Moscato earned Mason's lone point this afternoon. Moscato defeated Huddleson in two sets at the No. 4 position, 6-3, 7-5. Lindsay Gray and Stacey Berlinger each played back and forth three set matches before being defeated. Gray fell to Simon in the No. 1 position 6-0, 3-6, 6-0, and Berlinger in an almost identical score in the No. 2 spot fell 6-0, 2-6, 6-0.
The Patriots will head to Newport News this weekend for the CAA Championships. The four-day event begins the 17th and ends on the 20th. Mason will finish the season with the University of DC on April 21 in Fairfax.
