The George Mason softball team continues its week-long homestand on Tuesday when it plays host to Mount St. Mary's (1-12) for a doubleheader. The first game of the twinbill is set to begin at 2 p.m. at George Mason Field. Admission to all softball games is free.
Mason is coming off a weekend in which it earned its first two wins of the season. The Patriots defeated Cornell in their home opener on Friday, when freshman Ashli Breau blasted a sacrifice fly to put Mason up 2-1. Later that day, Mason fell to Quinnipiac by a 2-1 margin. Cornell exacted its revenge on Mason on Sunday with a 10-1 Big Red victory, but Mason bounced back to defeat Princeton 5-1 in the final game of the Patriot Classic.
Breau is currently leading the Patriot offense, batting .417 with a double and two RBIs. In the circle, sophomore Becky Anderson leads the team with a 0.57 ERA in six appearances and a 2-2 record. Anderson has struck out 15 batters as compared to issuing just four walks.
Following Tuesday's doubleheader, the Patriots will host the George Mason Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Mason will entertain Youngstown State, Iona, and Morgan State over the course of the eight-game, two-day tournament.
