March 10, 2008

The Patriots opened their Tour of North Carolina against Barton College in Wilson. As the day dawned so did a win as Mason took its second win of the season in convincing fashion, winning 6 of the 9 matches and going undefeated in doubles.

Brian Fitzgerald and Dan Schneider played at the No.1 doubles against Salimon and Grobel of Barton. With each game played neither wanting to concede the match, Fitzgerald and Schneider fought clawing at victory and were forced to a super breaker to decide the match. Winning the super breaker, 8-6, Fitzgerald and Schneider moved to 7-5 on the season. Jordan Lipstock and Matt Vaughn came in as the No.2 doubles and were impressive as they took the match 8-6. Stas Budagov and Harwood Hoskins were the No.3 doubles and put up the most convincing doubles win of 8-5.

Unfortunately the Patriots could not extend their undefeated aura into singles, but Fitzgerald, Hoskins, and Martin Brown were able to win to seal the day for the Patriots. Fitzgerald played at the No.1 singles, Hoskins played at the No.4 singles, and Brown played at the No.6 singles.

The Patriots continue their Tour of North Carolina against Mount Olive at 1 pm in Mount Olive March 11th.
