FAIRFAX, Va. -
Freshman Dwight Webley made the most of his final chance to qualify for a major indoor championship meet, topping the IC4A standard in the long jump at the Mason Last Chance, held at the Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. Webley finished first in the event with a mark of 7.22 meters.
Webley has also qualified for the IC4A Championships in the triple jump. He recorded a mark of 14.85 meters at the Virginia Tech Challenge last weekend.
Also finishing first in one of the jumping events was Webley's teammate, senior Ryan McCoy. McCoy topped the field of seven competitors in the triple jump with a leap of 15.77 meters, tying his best mark of the year. McCoy has already qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the event.
Freshman William Phillips also finished in first place at the meet. Phillips clocked in at 22.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash. His teammate, Jon Nad, finished fifth with a time of 24.14 seconds.
On the women's side, freshman Britney Streeter topped the ECAC qualifying standard in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds in the finals to finish in second place. Streeter clocked in at 7.19 seconds in the preliminary heats to advance to the finals. It is the first time this season that Streeter has reached a qualifying standard.
Junior Murielle Ahoure won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.00 seconds, while sophomore Marie Fields finished in third place with a time of 7.17 seconds, both topping the ECAC qualifying standard as well. Fields also finished first in the 200-meter dash (25.21).
George Mason finished first in two more events at the meet. Freshman Chia Hudson recorded a mark of 5.62 meters in the long jump to top the field, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Crystal Lawrence, Ryann Hendricks, Britney Streeter and Chia Hudson finished first with a time of 4:00.71.
Next up for the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams is the ECAC/IC4A Championships scheduled for March 8-9 in Boston, Mass.
