RICHMOND, Va. -
It was a banner week for the 17th-ranked George Mason women's lacrosse team, which has started the season with its best record in the history of the program after six games with a 5-1 mark, in the process equaling a school record that has stood since 1996 with its fourth consecutive win. The Patriots' stellar play was recognized this week as senior midfielder Megan Bartlett was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Chelsea Gamble was named the Rookie of the Week.
In George Mason's 19-15 road win over No. 18 Boston University on Saturday, Bartlett led all scorers with five goals, a new career high, in addition to one assist. She also tied her career high with four draw controls in the game. In the Patriots' 15-5 win over Iona College on Thursday, Bartlett tallied two goals and a caused turnover.
Gamble had an outstanding afternoon in the Patriots' win over Boston University, tying Bartlett for the game high in points with six (three goals and three assists). It was her second consecutive game with three goals as Gamble also tallied a hat trick in Mason's win over Iona College. Gamble also had two draw controls in the win.
Mason's 19-15 win on Saturday marked the second time this season that Mason has scored 19 goals in a game. The Patriots also found the back of the net 19 times in a win over George Washington on March 5 at George Mason Stadium. The school record for goals scored in a game is 23, set on April 9, 2006 against Old Dominion.
After playing the past two games on the road, the Patriots return home to George Mason Stadium on Saturday, March 22 to take on St. Joseph's at 1 p.m.
