Mason-Ga. Southern Box Score
Mason-Ball State Box Score
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The George Mason softball team fell 6-0 to Georgia Southern on Saturday at the USF Under Armour Showcase, in a game that was interrupted by a rain delay that lasted nearly a day. Later in the day, the Patriots fell behind early and the Ball State Cardinals held off Mason, 3-1. The Patriots fell to 6-13 on the season after the day's events.
Mason totaled just one hit against the strong performance of GSU starter Kristan Glover, who tossed a complete game shutout to earn the win. Mason's lone hit came off the bat of junior Jill Chen, when she broke up the no-hitter in the seventh with a single up the middle.
Meanwhile, the Eagles pieced together eight hits on the day, including home runs by Robyne Siliga and Jenny Side. Mason starter Paige Krystofinski was tagged with the loss, after the junior allowed five runs on five hits in four innings of work.
In the second game of the day, Mason met up with Ball State for the second time this week, and despite another solid complete game outing from sophomore Becky Anderson, the Cardinals dealt the Patriots a 3-1 loss.
A two-RBI base hit in the first inning provided the Cardinals all of the offense it would need, despite the third home run of the season for sophomore Ashli Breau which cut the deficit to 2-1. Mason was unable to plate the equalizing run for the remainder of the game, and Ball State added an insurance run in the seventh to set the final score.
Mason will conclude its spring break tournament play on Sunday at the USF Under Armour Showcase, squaring off against Long Island at 11:30 a.m. followed by a tilt against Sam Houston State at 2 p.m.
