The George Mason baseball team won its third straight game on Tuesday when the Patriots traveled to Longwood and won their first road game of the season, beating the Lancers, 3-2. Ryan Brecko earned the win, allowing just three hits and four walks in five and one-third innings. Shane Davis hit his first collegiate homer as Mason improved to 5-7 on the year.
Mason trailed 1-0 in the top of the fifth when the Patriots scored all the runs they needed. Davis led off the inning with his home run to left field. Dan Palumbo followed that with a single down the leftfield line. After Brent Weiss' sacrifice bunt moved Palumbo to second, Spencer Wiggins followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Chris Henderson's double to right made it 2-0 and Wiggins, who went to third on the play, scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Lancers closed the gap in the sixth inning when they scored to make it 3-2. Longwood put runners on the corners in the seventh with two out, but couldn't score, and in the ninth, they had a runner on first with two down but T.J. O'Grady got the final out to pick up his first save of the season.
Mason will get to return the favor of playing host as Longwood will visit Spuhler Field on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
