Complete Results From Friday's Finals

FAIRFAX, Va. - With just one day left in the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championship, the George Mason women's swimming and diving team held its ground as it maintained second place in the overall standings, while the men's team dropped a spot to third place.

At the conclusion of the day's events at the Jim McKay Natatorium, the Mason women trailed Towson by a 485.5-to-345 margin, and hold a narrow eight-point lead over third-place UNC Wilmington. The men, with a combined point total of 347, trail the Seahawks (464) and Old Dominion (347)

Junior Eric Knight picked up one of two victories on the day for the Patriots, shattering both the team and CAA meet record with a time of 54.93 in the 100-yard breaststroke. That time was fast enough to make an NCAA B-cut. Senior Matt Kane and freshman Stephen Sullivan swam to a one-two finish in the 400-yard individual medley, with Kane taking first with a time of 3:57.74 and Sullivan finishing in 4:01.73.

On the women's side, Mason recorded two second-place finishes. Senior Amanda Fielding earned silver in the 1-meter dive with a score of 268.35 while freshman Lisa Faulkner was third off the board with a 264.75 score. However, Drexel's Kate Hynes picked up the win with a meet-record 327.95 mark.

Mason's 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Mary Beth Cheslock, sophomore Caitlin Impink, freshman Katie Planchak, and senior Sarah Bizer broke another school record with its second-place time of 1:34.12. Impink further etched her name into the record books with a time of 1:50.90 in the 200-yard freestyle, a new school record as well.

The four-day championship concludes tomorrow, with trials set for 10 a.m. and finals scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
