RICHMOND, Va. - A pair of George Mason freshmen were honored for the second time this season after each completing outstanding weekends in the pool, as Bryan Bahr and Ashley Danner were named Male Diver and Women's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, by the Colonial Athletic Association office. Both earned the same awards three weeks ago as well.
Bahr, a native of Alexandria, Va., earned the honor after he captured the 3-meter dive title at the Pod Meet this past weekend with a score of 329 points. In the competition against Delaware, Towson and UNC Wilmington, Bahr also was second in the 1-meter dive with a 302-point total.
For Danner, the award comes following three victories and two new Mason records. On Friday, the Springfield, Va., product won the 200-yard IM in a school record time of 2:03.07, along with a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.83). On Saturday, she finished nearly nine seconds ahead of her nearest competitor as she touched the wall in 2:14.46 in the 200-yard breaststroke, also a school record.
Mason has now won five weekly awards this season, as the duo, along with sophomore Lisa Faulkner who was named Women's Diver of the Week, was recognized by the conference on October 14.
The Patriots return to action on Saturday when they square off against ACC foes Maryland and North Carolina in College Park, Md., at 12 p.m.
