The Mason women's tennis team had a strong home showing today by defeating the Lady Hawks of University of Maryland Eastern Shore 7-0. The Patriots lost only five games in singles action to move to 2-0 on the season.
In doubles play, Mason's top duo of Lindsay Gray and Meredith Cutchin continue to play well winning 8-1 against the best from UMES. At No. 2 doubles veterans Alicia Van Zandt and Alex LoCoste defeated the team of Coltrane/Jones 8-2. In the third doubles match Mason's Catherin Crisostomo and Kristen Davis breezed to an 8-0 win.
Three singles matches were decided in straight sets as Sarah Deiffenbach (No. 3), Cutchin (No. 4) and Van Zandt (No. 6) all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins. Gray at No. 1 singles lost only one game en route to her win. Freshman Brooke Blackwell won the first match 6-0 then won 6-3 in the second at No. 2 singles. Aryn Christman won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
The Patriots next dual match is against Hofstra on October 26th at 12:15 pm at the Mason Tennis Courts.
