UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The George Mason men's cross country team headed north today to compete in the Penn State National. The 5.2-mile race was held at The Blue and White Golf Course in University Park, Pa. Georgetown, ranked No. 8 nationally, won the meet with a team point total of 43.
Following the Hoyas across the finish line was host Penn State with 93 team points. Villanova edged out Cortland State by a mere point for third and Guelph finished out the top five. George Mason finished the meet 13th out of the 28 teams competing.
Sophomore Scott Tekesky paced the Patriots with a time of 26:22 and finished in 59th place. James Snyder and Everett Hackett followed less than four seconds later, finishing in the 63rd and 65th positions, respectively. Junior James Burns followed ten seconds behind Hackett, crossing the finish line with a time of 26:36. Mason's lone competing senior, Ryan Murphy, finished in 106th with a time of 26:53. Juniors Chris Palmer and Anthony LaMastro finished with times of 26:59 and 27:07, respectively.
Georgetown's Andrew Bumbalough, Jr. won the race in a time of 25:10. Mark Steeds of CAA opponent Georgia State, crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 25:14. Levi Miller, also of Georgetown, came in third overall with a time of 25:18.
Mason will be back in action on Nov. 1 as they host the CAA Championships at Bull Run Park in Centreville, Va. The event will start at 10 a.m. with a men's and women's race to be run.
