The George Mason men's cross country team will open up their 2007 season at the Lou Onesty Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia, this Saturday, Sept. 8, at Panorama Farms. The 8K race will start at 10 a.m.
Eleven teams will compete, including ACC teams from host Virginia, Wake Forest and Duke. In-state rivals William & Mary, Radford, Christopher Newport, Norfolk State and Hampton. North Carolina schools High Point and Mars Hill are also competing. There are 122 athletes entered in the race.
Head Coach Andy Gerard will begin his third season at Mason with 17 returnees and 14 newcomers. John Crain, Kris Cruz, Ryan Davis and Ryan Miller are the four returning seniors that make up the young squad.
The team will travel to the Naval Academy Invitational on Saturday, September 15, before hosting the Mason Invitational on September 28 at Bull Run Park in Manassas, Va. In October the team has two meets, the Nittany Lion Invitational on October 12 and the CAA Championships in Farmingdale, NY on October 26th. On November 3, the Patriots return to Panorama Farms for the Cavalier Open one week prior to the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.
