SACRAMENTO, Calif. -
Sophomore Murielle Ahoure (Bristow, Va./Hayfield Secondary), the NCAA East Regional Champion in the 100-meter dash, will begin the journey toward adding another title to her already impressive collection when she runs in the 100-meter dash on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. The first round of the 100-meter dash will begin at 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET) with the semifinals slated for 6:55 p.m. PT (9:55 p.m. ET) at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of Sacramento State University.
Ahoure, who set a new school record in addition to winning the regional title in the 100-meter dash at the regional championships, will run in the third heat of the first round of the 100-meter dash. Her competitors in the heat will be Texas A&M's Simone Facey (11.19), LSU's Sherry Fletcher (11.26), Florida's Lakecia Ealey (11.39), Texas A&M's Porscha Lucas (11.42), LSU's Samantha Henry (11.50) and Texas A&M's Elizabeth Adeoti (11.51). Ahoure's school-record time of 11.28 seconds ranks third in the heat.
There will be four heats in the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash. Eighteen athletes will advance to the semifinals of the event, including the top three in each heat plus the next six fastest times. The top four in each semifinal plus the next fastest time will advance to the finals of the event, slated for Friday at 6:25 p.m. PT (9:25 p.m. ET).
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) with the decathlon. The field events begin at 10:30 a.m. PT (1:30 p.m. ET) with the qualifying round of the men's javelin throw, while the running events start at 3 p.m. PT (6 p.m. ET) with the semifinals of the men's 4x100-meter relay. The first day of the four-day meet concludes with the semifinals of the women's 5000-meter run at 9:30 p.m. PT (12:30 p.m. ET).
